"The songs were very easy to remember and always got stuck in my head. I would even be singing the songs but not actually paying attention to the lyrics at the start, and later look closer at the lyrics and think Oohhh, that's actually really helpful and makes sense!"
"There are a few songs that just really stick in my head and they’ve helped me with everything from homework to finals and the PSAT. They’re also helpful in class because they make new concepts more approachable."
"I found myself singing them outside of math class. A lot of the songs cover math topics that are used in other classes, such as analyzing graphs (functions/asymptote song) and the unit circle."
"They were the only way I could memorize formulas. I honestly don’t think I would have passed most of my math classes without them. They also made me enjoy math a lot more!"
"I would do the dances at my seat during our exams to remember the formulas and rules"
"The songs were so catchy that most of my classmates and I found ourselves humming the songs outside of class. Sometimes one person would be humming out loud and everyone else would join in, which was always a fun time."
"During tests I often get anxious and freeze. The math songs are a quick and easy way to remember the foundations of what we learn. During many of the tests, I wrote down the lyrics to the rational functions song ("the bottom zeroes give us issues with the domain, the top zeroes give us zeros of the whole thing"). I would look at the lyrics to help with the first step of solving the problem and work from there."
"The songs also add a fun element to a subject that many kids, including myself, struggle with....starting off the morning with fun songs and positive energy created a lively class that was welcoming and enjoyable."
"The vertex form song was a huge help and I even use it on the SAT."
"The rational function song, the limit song, and even the unit circle song have all been really great helps. [when studying calculus]. It's crazy to see how much I remember and the number of strategies I can apply to countless different problems."
I used to face challenges with mathematics, barely managing to pass my mock exam (prelim) in December with a mere 44%. However, as the months led up to my actual exam in May, I was determined to turn things around. That's when I stumbled upon @mathlovesiu's TikTok account, where her positive and engaging songs helped me retain crucial concepts for my exam. I can still vividly recall humming "factored formed cha cha cha" in my mind while in my real exam in May.
Mathematics proves to be a struggle for many, yet I've come to realize that approaching it with the right mindset and shedding the negativity surrounding it can lead to significant improvement. The 8th of August brought me wonderful news – I had achieved an A, the highest grade attainable in my country - Scotland. I owe a massive debt of gratitude to @mathlovesiu's songs, which played a pivotal role in dispelling the misconceptions I held about maths. Now, not only do I enjoy mathematics, but I'm also embarking on a more advanced, higher-level math course later this month. A heartfelt thank you goes out to @mathlovesiu for making this transformation possible.
Ms. Siu's incorporation of music into math is another way of bringing accessibility and breaking down the barriers to math education. I am a 36-year-old college student with a learning disability, and to meet my educational needs and have a competitive performance, I need to be creative and find resources that work with my learning style. Similar to how one easily memorizes a few lines of a song from the radio by listening to it just a few times, Ms. Siu's songs and rhymes effortlessly found a little room in my brain. And I still remember them, several months later. I used Ms. Siu's TikTok videos to supplement my Algebra II and Trigonometry class, which was exam-heavy, with 90% of the grade coming from the various exams. Ms. Siu's voice would pop up in my brain mid-exam, and her songs would guide me whenever I got stuck. I finally learned how to complete the square, and can do it consistently due to one of her songs. I ended the semester as one of the top students in my class and passed with an A. I am thankful for Ms. Siu's creativity and work to make learning and excelling in math a possibility for students of all learning styles.
I got one of your songs stuck in my head from here on TikTok and used it on my college Calc2 exam..."a is the zero term and the base is the ratio, to the n to the n" You save me lots of trouble on the exams and I got an A :)
